ICTC's Full Circle Birth Companion/Doula Intensive will train you in cultural awareness and sensitivity, infant mortality, high risk pregnancies, medical terminology, inter-uterine growth retardation, nutrition, comprehension, prenatal support, labor management,massage therapy, HIPPA and much more:
We Teach Our Doulas To:
- Advise and assist using comfort measures such as breathing, relaxation, massage, and positioning
- Provide physical, emotional, and informational support to women and their partners before, during and after labor and birth
- Provide continuous emotional reassurance and comfort for the birthing women and partner
- Take vital signs: Blood Pressure, temperature, pulse and respiration
- Monitor and record maternal illness; signs/symptoms of breast infection and other difficulties
- Monitor normal newborn feeding;helping establish successful breastfeeding
- Teach and Promote bonding activities between newborn, mother and family
- Function as an integral part of the Maternity Care Case Management Team
ON AVERAGE, DOULA ATTENDED BIRTHS PROVIDE:
- Reduction in the cesarean rates and shorter labors
- Reduction in epidural requests and analgesia use
- Reduction in vacuum and forceps deliveries
- Improvement of the mother/infant bond
- Improved satisfaction with partner after birth
- Higher breastfeeding success rate

The Next Doula Training:
April 24th-27th, 2008
Training's usually take place third weekend of the scheduled month. Thursday Evening is the Orientation, Philosophy and Welcome Reception; Friday- Sunday Afternoon are training days.
